Week 3: But God Chose Me

I’ve spent a lot of time thinking about what it means to be chosen.

Chosen by parents.

Chosen by a partner.

Chosen for motherhood.

Chosen for opportunities.

Chosen for the life I imagined.

And if I’m honest, sometimes I have allowed the absence of those things to make me question whether I was chosen at all.

But then I remember the bigger story.

The Bible begins with God creating a garden and placing humanity there.

And even after humanity broke relationship with Him and hid, God came looking.

“Where are you?”

That question has been sitting with me.

Because sometimes I feel like I’m the one asking God, “Where are You?”

But maybe the bigger truth is that God has been asking humanity that question for generations.

Where are you?

Come back.

I haven’t stopped looking for you.

I haven’t stopped loving you.

I haven’t stopped making a way for you to return.

Ephesians 1 says that God chose us in Christ before the foundation of the world, and it connects that choosing directly to love and adoption.

That doesn’t mean God promised me everything I want.

It doesn’t mean I understand why some prayers have gone unanswered.

It doesn’t erase the ache of not being married or the grief of not becoming a mother.

But it does challenge the lie that those things are evidence that I wasn’t chosen.

Maybe I have been measuring my chosen-ness by the wrong harvest.

Maybe the question isn’t:

“Why didn’t God give me what I wanted?”

Maybe it is:

“Can I learn to believe that I am loved even while I am still waiting, still grieving and still asking why?”

I’m still learning.

But this much I know:

I am not waiting for God to choose me.

He already did.
